Praseodymium oxide occurs in monazite and bastnaesite.
Praseodymium is a component of neodymium-iron-boron NdFeB magnets to improve strength and durability.
As an alloy with magnesium praseodymium is used in aircraft engines.
It is one of the elements in mischmetal (~5%).
Praseodymium oxide is used to color glass and ceramics. As an element in didymium blocks infrared radiation and hence is used protective goggles.
It is also used in catalytic converters, carbon arc lights, and CAT scan scintillators. The element is additionally used as a doping agent in fibre optic cables, and in several other metal alloys.
