List of Rare Earths Deposits ex China
25 03 20 17:21
The purpose of this list is to give a general overview on the rare earth space outside China. This is not investment advice, please do your own in-depth research, starting with the links provided.
Explanations:
- MR means mineable resource. The quantity indication is in millions of metric tons.
- TREO means total rare earth oxides.
- "-" means no data have been made available, for example because the absence of authoritative documentation such as National Instrument 43-101, but not exclusively.
- "N/A" means "not available".
- TREO are indicated as percentage of mineable resource and as total quantity in millions of metric tons. To give you a scale, the total rare earth imports of USA in 2019 were ca. 0.020 mio tons, roughly equivalent to one year of US rare earths consumption.
- While a number of deposits may be considered being too small, the large size of a deposit is not necessarily an indicator of its feasibility.
- Be reminded, that rare earth is not single ore and not single element mining, it is the whole chain of lanthanides plus scandium and yttrium from a variety of different ores and clays.
- Not one deposit is like the other. There are large differences between them, which affects their feasibility. For example, the quantity of each rare earth oxide contained can differ widely.
- The quantity of TREO is based on 100%. However, generally much less than 100% are recoverable in the process. Some elements of some deposits may not be recoverable at all.
- Some deposits are "polymetallic", i.e. they contain also substantial percentages of non-rare earth metals, e.g. zirconium, hafnium, niobium, et al.
